As part of a busy IT department, working closely with Marketing I carried out many small scale changes (eg multi variant test and targeting, improving page/site performance). The main focus of my work however was in the Umbraco content management system (CMS), where I was a key resource in the relaunch of one of the main sites (www.satsumaloans.co.uk) using a completely new responsive design, built from the ground up.
A regular feature of my experience with content management solutions has been concentrating on the CMS editors, making intuitive, easy to use systems that allow them to concentrate on the changes they need to make, instead of working out how to use the system. I have many years experience of this right back to Halifax/HBOS and Provident has been no different.
I ensure that editors are given plenty of documentation and helpful tips, inside the CMS where appropriate, eg this example page was created as a custom user control inside Umbraco:
Further to the editor help documentation, I also concentrate on developing custom user interfaces to assist with specific areas of content entry. For example, I created some elements that instead of “dry” selection boxes, I used Angular code to create custom data types that allowed users to choose from graphical options:
Other examples include:
Nested complex data types, allowing endless variation and a “building block” approach to creating multiple content pages layouts.
